As part of a multi-disciplinary team of nurses, a radiographer, and administration and clinic manager, you will provide medical care to patients presenting to the Falls Creek Medical Centre. You will ideally be a FACEM or advanced ACEM or GP/ACRRM fellow or trainee with experience in smaller emergency departments in rural and remote areas. You must be APHRA registered.
The medical centre is at the end of the major ski run in Falls Creek and provides emergency care to the snow-fields and village residents and visitors throughout the snow season (8th June – 6th October 2024). You will need to be proficient in management of injuries associated with snow sports, particularly managing sprains, dislocations and fractures, including with procedural sedation if clinically warranted.
You must be confident in managing primary care and peadiatric presentations and skilled in advanced life support in case of major trauma including head injury, and other medical emergencies, while awaiting transfer by on-site Ambulance Victoria crew or retrieval helicopter.
You will be the sole doctor with two experienced emergency nurses during the build-up and run-off seasons (June and September), or part of a 2 doctor /3 nurse team during the peak period of July and August. The centre is open 10am-6pm daily with after-hours on-call duties shared amongst the team.
The centre is basic but well stocked with 5 clinical bays including one set-up for category 1-2 patients. Plain x-ray will be available (by radiographer or by health practitioners with remote area x-ray license) and those practitioners with capability in remote x-ray (as per Victorian Health guidelines) will be prioritized.
Accommodation will be provided with en-suited private rooms and shared living areas in up to three apartments adjacent to the centre. Clinicians will need to be physically fit and ideally will have experience and skills on skis or board, but this is not mandatory. You will be required to accompany ski patrol to accidents on the snow fields (on ski-doos, etc).
There is a clinic car that can be used by the health team and support for travel is negotiable depending on duration of deployment. Rostering should allow you time to enjoy the slopes each morning and night skiing on Wednesdays and Saturdays when working.
We welcome clinicians who would like longer or recurrent short term relief rotations to Falls Creek.
Remuneration is $1,780 per day including on-call.
