Global Support and Development (GSD) is a humanitarian organization that works in close partnership with local, national, and regional actors to strengthen disaster readiness and enable effective response. Leveraging diverse capabilities, GSD supports partners by meeting immediate needs, providing critical information and analysis to aid decision-makers, and strengthening national systems to lead and coordinate rapid responses to sudden-onset disasters.
Over the next five years, the REnew Pacific program will empower remote communities through inclusive and sustainable projects that provide lighting, clean water, improved agriculture, enhanced food security, quality education and health services and reliable communications, improving livelihoods for local community members.
In partnership with Respond Global, its HELPR-1 vessel will transport and install 20 new off-grid solar power systems and refurbish 20 additional health facilities, enabling reliable 24/7 electricity in some of Vanuatu’s most remote communities for the first time.
This one-year REnew Pacific project, supported by the Vanuatu National Green Energy Fund (NGEF), will improve local healthcare delivery, including night-time emergencies and maternity care. It will also supply essential medical equipment and cold chain refrigeration, which are critical for vaccine storage and improving health prevention.
Since April 2022, the operations of HELPR-1 have been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Global Support & Development (GSD), and Respond Global.
These partnerships have been instrumental in delivering essential services to some of the most remote and underserved communities across Vanuatu’s islands. HELPR-1 has provided critical health outreach, strengthened disaster preparedness, and supported frontline health systems – all from the deck of a purpose-built vessel designed to meet the complex needs of the Pacific.
We are deeply grateful to the Australian Government and GSD for their commitment to improving health access and resilience in Vanuatu. Their trust in HELPR-1 has helped us reach thousands of people with services that would otherwise be out of reach.
Our vision to scale this model to other Pacific Nations relies on partnerships like these. We welcome collaboration with governments, foundations, and private donors who share our commitment to practical, community-centred solutions that work in challenging environments.
